Tottenham’s apparent interest in AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara could spark Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea into action.
That’s according to ‘sports advisor’ Bassirou Sakho, who has been speaking about the 21-year-old’s future with Africa Foot.
Camara has been earning admirers in Europe this season thanks to his performances for Monaco, who he joined in a €15m move from FC Metz in July.
He’s not looked back since with two goals and six assists in 31 games in all competitions for the Ligue 1 club so far and plenty of positive reviews.
They’ve led to plenty of rumours around him, particularly in the Premier League, where Tottenham are believed to be big fans ahead of the summer. If that’s genuine, it could lead to the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City moving as well according to Sakho.
“In fact, the article mentions that Tottenham and Liverpool, among the Premier League clubs, are keen to recruit Senegal’s best prospect since Sadio Mané,” he said.
“If these two clubs show an interest, the other giants of English football, such as Manchester City and Chelsea, who will be making a big splash in the next mercato, could be interested in Lamine Camara’s services. And that would be a good thing for the young Senegalese prospect.”
The question is whether Camara, who is still relatively new in Europe after moving to France with Metz in 2023 before his switch to Monaco in 2024, could make the step up to the Premier League.
He’s still only 21 and has less than 100 appearances to his name for Metz B, Metz’s first team and now Monaco.
Moving to England could be tough given that inexperience, but Sakho has no such fears about Senegal’s rising star.
“He has all the qualities to succeed in this league, and it will also be a new page in his career for him. Monaco are in the process of examining all offers for his interest,” he added.
“He’s a kid full of promise, he’s already shown his know-how with the Senegalese youth teams, with the Senegalese senior national team as well, and with the clubs he’s played for.
“We’ve seen it with AS Monaco, where he’s one of the team’s metronomes. Despite his young age, he will be able to adapt alongside great players and learn to progress.”
