The agent of Sunderland winger Emanuele Giaccherini is today to hold talks with Serie A side Napoli with regards to his client moving back to Italy. The 31-year-old is expected to return to his home country this summer following his loan spell with Bologna last season.
Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio has confirmed Napoli are hoping to get a deal done quickly because of the competition to sign Giaccherini from fellow Serie A side Torino.
Discussions are expected to take place today after initial talks yesterday evening, and the objective now is to land the player before Torino can react.
With Napoli being in the Champions League next season, the Italian side want to strengthen in this transfer window, and besides Giaccherini they hope to sign Juventus midfielder Roberto Pereyra before the deadline.
Giaccherini joined Sunderland in 2013, and despite early promise his second season in England was blighted by injury. The winger managed to kick-start his career with Bologna last season, but this resulted in the Italian wanting to return to Italy.
Giaccherini’s performances during the Euros brought him to the attention of Serie A clubs, and a permanent move back to Italy is looking very close, with either Napoli or Torino.
