It’s no secret that Jorge Mendes’ role at Valencia has much more influence than it seems. As a personal friend of the club owner Peter Lim, the Portuguese agent is the one making most calls regarding transfers in and out of the club.

The local press doesn’t take to it with a lot of excitement, and it’s with a tone of disapproval that Deporte Valenciano are covering what was said in Radio Esport Tribuna Desportiva this Thursday.

It’s claimed that Jorge Mendes wants four players out of Valencia. Three of them would be sold (Ezequiel Garay, Santi Mina and João Cancelo) and the other one should be returned to his club, which is Eliaquim Mangala.

Garay and Cancelo, who are officialy Gestifute players, would end up making some money for the agent since they would be sold for much more than what Valencia paid.

But it’s unclear why the agent wouldn’t push for the permanent transfer of Mangala. On loan at Valencia until the end of the season, there’s a buying option which can be activated so the transfer goes permanent.

Despite Valencia’s poor season, Mangala has an important role at the team’s defence, being the centre-back with the most appearances so far.

So it’s quite difficult to guess what Mendes wants by sending him back to Manchester City, since the player has already shown he isn’t prepared to play top level football in the Premier League.
