One of the most infuriating stories of the January transfer window, Manolo Gabbiadini’s exit from Napoli is certainly picking up pace this Thursday, with reports of a new bid coming from Italy outlets left, right and centre, suggesting something might be happening.
Southampton appear to be winning the battle, or could actually be the only team left in this pursuit, as Calciomercato add to this morning’s story that the bonuses offered by the Saints were the reason for the bid not being accepted yet.
The Italian website give a bit more information about the alleged add-ons in the Southampton offer, claiming they total up to €4m, triggered if the player hits 10-15 goals and a certain number of appearances, as well as a future sell-on percentage.
Just in case you didn’t believe them that negotiations between the two sides were ongoing, Calciomercato also have a picture of Gabbiadini’s agent, Silvio Pagliari, at one of Milan’s ‘transfer hotels’, where teams and agents meet up to hold discussions.
Pagliari is said to have met there with Napoli’s director of sport Cristiano Giuntoli multiple times, suggesting both sides are doing everything possible to reach an agreement.
Will that lead to a Southampton transfer? There’s less than a week left of the window to find out.
