Yesterday, Croatian newspaper Jutarnji list reported Croatian star Ivan Rakitic is on the verge of signing of Manchester City.
Jutarnji list claimed they had ‘perfect insight’ about the transfer, and it’s one of the ‘best kept secrets’ of the transfer market.
It’s been reported Pep Guardiola and Txiki Begiristain are convinced Rakitic could do a job for Manchester City, especially with Gundogan expected to be out for a long time.
On Monday, Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo take stock of the situation, as they rule out a January move for the 28-year-old. Mundo Deportivo spoke to Rakitic’s agent, who has confirmed ‘there is nothing’ in the rumours about the Croatian signing for Manchester City this month.
Rakitic hasn’t been playing regularly this season, but Mundo Deportivo believe Rakitic has asked his representatives not to listen to any offers in January. The Croatian midfielder is determined to fight for his place at Barcelona as he opted for the Catalan club over other top European clubs in 2014.
Mundo Deportivo say Manchester City made an effort to sign Rakitic last summer, but the player was reluctant on switching clubs.
That could change next summer if his situation at Barcelona doesn’t change, with Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus keeping close tabs on him.
