Seemingly focusing more on midfielders and forwards this January, Tony Pulis and West Brom are expected remain very active in the lat 36 hours of the transfer window.

However, with only three senior centre-backs at the club (four, but Craig Dawson has been doing rather well at right-back), the arrival of an extra player in that position might not be the worst idea in January.

Currently eighth in the Premier League, West Brom were reported by The Sun as being interested in Zenit’s veteran centre-back Nicolas Lombaerts, who has been used sporadically by Mircea Lucescu this season.

However, the Belgian defender’s agent has decided to clear the air on this a bit, speaking to Russian news outlet TASS about the alleged interest from the Premier League side in his client.

He said: “The information about West Brom’s offer isn’t true. At the moment, we’re waiting for Zenit’s decision. The player has received specific proposals, but I won’t disclose them.”

The defender, who arrived from KAA Gent in 2007, has only made 12 appearances for the Russian club in all competitions, with most of them coming in the Europa League and the Russian Cup.
