Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is one of a generation of Danish footballers who are undoubtedly talented, show a lot of promise, but still struggle to really breakthrough to the next stage.

When Højbjerg arrived at Southampton from Bayern Munich it was with some fanfare, after the player had already shown enough to be highly rated.

Unfortunately for Højbjerg things haven’t exactly gone to plan and Southampton signing Mario Lemina sees him even further down the pecking order.

In this kind of situation, many agents would immediately look for the exit door, but Højbjerg’s representative doesn’t want to shake the boat.

As part of a feature on the player’s problems at Southampton, Ekstra Bladet spoke to Soren Lerby, who told the Danish newspaper: “Pierre must not succumb to these circumstances.”

Ekstra Bladet believe the experienced agent is insisting his client needs to fight, to battle his way into serious contention, rather than either give up or agitate for a transfer.

Further than that, Lerby isn’t keen to talk about Højbjerg’s situation at Southampton. It’s time for the 22 year old to get his head down and show why he’s been so highly rated previously.
