Even though it’s Manchester United who’ve been heavily linked to Sporting fullback Nuno Mendes this week, we can’t forget about how strong the claims about Manchester City have been as well.
At the start of April, Pep Guardiola’s side were said to be in touch with the Lions for the youngster’s transfer, and since then they continued being mentioned as one of the contenders to land him.
Now as Record features today a piece about the visit that Mendes’ agent Miguel Pinho is making to Manchester, they point out that there should soon be a meeting with City as well.
The newspaper first says the official is speaking to Manchester United. Since he also represents Bruno Fernandes, he yesterday watched the Red Devils’ game against Fulham, and would then discuss both Mendes’ transfer to Old Trafford and the midfielder’s new contract with the club.
Record claims that after speaking to Manchester United, Pinho should then head to Manchester City, where he’ll also talk about Mendes.
It’s said there could be a ‘real duel’ for the right-back, and that ‘will end up benefitting the Lions’, as it can only mean the player will be sold for more. It’s said the Lisbon side want €70m for the move, and that could be made of €40m or €45m in cash, plus the loan of a player and performance bonuses.
The newspaper writes that Real Madrid are also ‘attentive’ to the player, but the Premier League remains the most likely destination for the teenager.
