Elias Sørensen had a trial with Newcastle United in 2016 and the same summer he left Danish side HB Køge to join the Magpies academy.

The 19-year-old has been part of the Tyneside club’s U18 and U23 side and in January he was sent out on loan to Blackpool.

Sørensen was included in the preseason squad for the trip to China and his agent, Casper Grønn, believes his client is close to fulfilling his dream of playing in the Premier League.

“England is sometimes a bit special when you go through as a youth player,” Grønn told Danish outlet BT.

“It often takes a little longer than we as Danes are used to, but now it looks like he is in the first team squad. He has to seize the opportunity when it comes. The dream of playing in the Premier League has not been closer.

“He is very happy to be in the club. The new manager is looking forward to him and the chances of realising his dream of playing in the Premier League with Newcastle are within reach.”

Salomón Rondón and Ayoze Perez were part of Newcastle’s attacking unit last season and the duo have already left the club.

The Premier League side strengthened the squad by signing Joelinton and he joins Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto as the attacking players in the squad.

Sørensen’s representative is aware the teenager will get his chances, provided Bruce’s side don’t bring in new forwards to the club. Should that happen, Grønn will be forced to take the youngster to another club on loan so that he continues his development.

“The immediate plan for Elias Sørensen is to play in the first team and get the opportunity there,” added Grønn.

“I’ve been talking to the club as late as Tuesday and doing it almost daily, so we can make sure he gets the best opportunities to continue his development.

“If you can become a Premier League striker in the club you joined as a 16-year-old, then it’s a dream scenario.

“If they go out and buy two or three strikers, then we’ll probably look into the possibility of a loan, where there is also great interest.”
