Alexandre Mendy remains an SM Caen player despite weeks of trying to secure a move to Sunderland. The striker, who was top scorer in Ligue 2 last season, went very public with his desire to sign for the Championship club.
Since then he’s been in a battle with Caen to try and get them to allow the move for less than they’d want. The player’s camp believe that assurances given to them over a summer transfer have been ignored, and that people haven’t kept their word.
Now the player’s representative has spoken to Foot Mercato, for the second time, to give his side of the story.
The 30-year-old’s agent once again goes unnamed and is quoted as saying: “Currently, Alex is training separately, contrary to what the press wanted to show. He is irreproachable in his work and in his investment.”
He then spoke at length about promises broken by SM Caen but it was just a reiteration of what had been said previously.
The representative did make sure to say the striker’s aims haven’t changed and he absolutely wants the Championship club: “Alex is still determined to join Sunderland, there are about ten days left, we will not give up, our determination is intact. We remain positive and we are counting on the new management to unblock this situation.”
Sunderland are also said to have presented a revised offer for the 30-year-old which is reported as being €2-3m including bonuses.
