Chelsea were strongly linked with a move for Inter’s Marcelo Brozovic during the summer transfer window.

However, the Croatian midfielder is still at the Serie A club, and is now expected to sign a contract renewal.

Reports indicate Inter would be inserting a release clause of €50m for foreign clubs in Brozovic’s new contract, and the player would be earning €2.5m/year plus bonuses.

Brozovic’s agent Miroslav Bicanic has confirmed the latest developments to Italian website Calciomercato.

He said: “Yes, he’ll sign a new contract. He’s happy to stay, he knows the city and loves to play for Inter. The new contract will give him even more peace of mind, so that he can focus better on the field.”

Asked about interest from Chelsea, to which he replied: “Chelsea? The contract would have been better but for Marcelo money is not everything.

“He has a challenge with Inter in the Europa League, hopefully in the Champions League next year. He will do his best to achieve the goals.”
