Brighton winger José Izquierdo is set to return from his long injury lay off in either January or February, according to his agent.

The Colombian joined Brighton In a £13m deal from Club Brugge in 2017 and made a big impression in his first season on the South Coast with five goals and four assists in 36 appearances.

His second year proved to be highly frustrating though, with knee injuries ruling him out for most of the season and limiting him to just 17 appearances in all competitions.

Last summer saw him go under the knife to try and repair the ongoing issues he had with his knee and it’s subsequently seen him miss the entirety of this season so far.

Brighton were hoping to have the 27-year-old back around the New Year, and his agent has confirmed that they are looking at a February returning at the latest for his client.

“José is now good, and we need to give him a lot of support, that’s what we are doing,” he told Gol Caracol.

“Izquierdo is in the recovery phase. It has been an injury to the meniscus (of the left knee) quite hard. It’s exhausting to deal with.

“We hope Jose can be competing again in January or February. The expectation is that he will now start with a significant improvement.”
