Kevin Malcuit moved to Napoli in the summer 2018 transfer window, having shown enough at Lille to receive transfer attention from several sides.
He has 17 starts in Serie A so far this season, 14 of those as a substitute, and a further three appearances in other competitions.
The 27 year old will now be hoping to be picked in the Europa League when the Italian side faces Arsenal. His agent Bruno Satin has been speaking to radio in the country about that, and was also quizzed on transfer interest from the Gunners.
CalcioNapoli24 have picked up the comments, and Satin was asked if Arsenal have been pursuing Malcuit, to which the agent replied: “I knew that after Bellerin’s injury the club was looking for a fullback, but Kevin had just arrived in Naples and was playing more and more under Ancelotti, we didn’t consider the options.”
That makes it sound like Satin, who is well connected, heard generally of Arsenal looking around, and didn’t see the need to try and push his client towards them.
In the January window, Arsenal would have only been looking for a low-cost loan, which almost certainly wouldn’t have been of interest to Napoli anyway.
It may be different in the summer for the Gunners, depending on how Bellerin’s recovery goes.
