Leander Dendoncker netted his first goal for Wolverhampton Wanderers in his side’s victory over Everton.

After an initial struggle, the versatile player, who can operate as a defender or midfielder, is finally showcasing his worth with the English outfit.

Having arrived from Anderlecht last summer, the Belgium international had to wait until December to make his debut in the league, which came against Chelsea.

His first start in the league was against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley during the festive period and in both these matches, Wolves went on to clinch three points.

When Dendoncker was not playing regularly, his brother and agent Andres Dendoncker admitted it was important to find a solution for his client in the winter market, but that wasn’t necessary in the end as he’s made five starts in the league so far.

Speaking to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, Andres explains how Leander’s fortune has changed at Wolves, which convinced the player not to look for a transfer in January.

“The past few months have been a good lesson. Leander has found that in certain competitions with a higher intensity you have to get used to it,” Andres said.

“But in the meantime, he is able to do what the coach asks. When the wingback moves up, he pops up the holes. He already had the engine to infiltrate. But now he is also in the right rhythm to be able to make those runs.

“But luckily, just before the winter break, that opportunity came at Wembley: that was a turning point.

“Leander just wants to succeed at Wolves. He plays in a young, ambitious team. And okay, Wolverhampton is an industrial city, maybe not the most beautiful.

“But he is calm, he is happy, and what is happening in the field is what counts.”
