Ecuadorian youngster Kendry Páez chose Chelsea over a move to Borussia Dortmund because of a simple matter of timing.

That’s according to his agent Pipe Sierra, who says there wasn’t time to wait for Dortmund, so they elected to accept Chelsea’s offer instead.

Páez is set to join Chelsea next summer when he turns 18, with the Blues having moved quickly to sign him last year as part of their big spending under Todd Boehly and co.

He’s been left in Ecuador with Independiente to continue developing until he comes of age but has been earning rave reviews for his performances, particularly for his country, where he is already a part of the senior side.

He’s very much Ecuador’s rising star and appears to have a bright future ahead of him, particularly if he continues the current path he is on.

Indeed, he’s been backed to be a world star in future if things go to plan, meaning Chelsea may have been wise to get in early and secure his signature ahead of the competition.

But it seems it was a matter of timing that made that happen, with his agent revealing it was a choice between them and Borussia Dortmund.

“Borussia Dortmund was close, but in the end due to a timing issue it could not wait, and it was a decision to make now, to mark a historical milestone in Ecuador,” Bolavip report him saying on El Canal del Fútbol.

“Wherever he would have ended up is something to be proud of.”
