Liverpool are one of the clubs to have tried to sign the Benfica midfielder Alfa Semedo in, his agent has revealed.
Adilé Sebastião has given an interview to newspaper Record about the player’s development this Friday, and claimed that he had the chance to join the Reds even before moving to Portugal.
“The English club even sent plane tickets twice, but we never went,” Sebastião said.
Semedo was still in his home country of Guinea-Bissau at the time, and ended up moving to Benfica’s academy in 2015, at the age of 17.
The player spent a couple of years at Benfica’s academy, was sold to Moreirense in 2017, but was bought back by the Eagles this summer.
His performances at Moreirense convinced the Lisbon side he deserves another chance, and now at 20, he’s set to have his first season for Benfica as a professional.
Will Liverpool regret not signing him one day? Only time will tell, but the Anfield club send scouts to Portugal often so they should find out soon.
