Making a name for himself at RB Salzburg before moving to Hertha Berlin, Valentino Lazaro was one of Inter’s big money signings in the summer.

Splashing £20m on the 23-year-old after his three goal and seven assist season in 2018-19, the Serie A outfit believed the versatile wide man, who can play either as right-back or further up the pitch, was the right fit for Antonio Conte’s new look team.

The Italians weren’t the only ones after him, however, as Chelsea and Real Madrid were allegedly looking into acquiring his services over the summer.

That is, at least, what Calciomercato put to the player’s agent on Friday in an interview with Max Hagmayr, asking him why he and his client chose Inter over a move to Stamford Bridge or the Santiago Bernabéu.

He said: “Because of Conte’s presence and Inter’s project, that of managing to win Serie A”.

So far, he hasn’t exactly made a name for himself in the former Chelsea manager’s team, as he’s made just the one appearance so far, a 41 minute cameo in the Champions League against Slavia Prague, remaining firmly on the bench for every Serie A game so far.

Maybe a move to the Premier League would have worked out better for him in the early stages of the campaign, but there’s every chance Conte is just taking his time to ease the player into a new environment and will rely on him further down the line.
