Despite having a pre-agreement with Arsenal to sign Lucas Torreira, Fiorentina never decided to trigger the €15m option to buy in the loan deal,
That meant the Uruguay international returned to the Gunners, where he seemingly doesn’t feature in Mikel Arteta’s plans.
Now, the player has to find himself a new club, and it seems a return to Spain, where he has already featured with Atlético Madrid in the past is on the cards.
That comes courtesy of his agent, Pablo Bentancour, who spoke to Sport 890 in Uruguay about the Arsenal player’s future.
He said: “We have a pre-agreement with (Gennaro) Gattuso so that Torreira plays in Valencia. Today, there is an important meeting for this. Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, wants to have him for pre-season.”
Why Arteta wants Torreira around isn’t said, but it might simply be a numbers game for the time being.
The player previously made it clear he didn’t see a future for himself at Arsenal, and a move to Valencia under a former defensive midfielder as a manager could be exactly what he needs.
The problem now will be for the La Liga side and their counterparts to try and get a deal sorted, which is never easy when players go from England to somewhere else.
