For those who don’t know already, Tottenham are in talks to sign Cristian Romero from Atalanta.
The two clubs have yet to find an agreement, but the feeling in Italy is that the two clubs are close, and the Argentine is close to reuniting with Fabio Paratici once again, as the Spurs director of football was the one who brought him to Juventus in the first place.
We’ll have to wait and see when the deal gets finalised, but there is one man in Italy who is 100% behind the idea of Tottenham buying Romero, and that’s Furio Valcareggi, an agent on the Italian market.
Speaking to TuttoMercatoWeb about various deals, the representative was asked about the Atalanta defender being close to leaving Italy.
He said: “He’s a great player, very good. Prandelli, who managed him, said that he had never seen such a strong player. If I were Paratici and Tottenham, I would take him immediately. You will put the defence in place for 10 years. Just like if you take Koulibaly, he sets your defence in one fell swoop. He’s the Ronaldo of defending”.
Big words from the agent, but it’s clear for all to see how talented Romero is, as the Argentina international was voted last season’s best defender in Serie A.
In a league known for its defending, that’s quite the accolade, and it seems Tottenham are getting ever closer to gifting him to Nuno Espirito Santo.
