São Paulo’s Welington has ended up on the radar of Southampton and other European clubs for the summer window.

That’s according to Tuttosport, who mention Southampton’s interest in the defender when discussing Torino’s efforts to sign him.

The left-back’s contract lasts until the end of this year and has decided against signing a new deal, forcing the Brazilian club to consider selling him.

The report says he dreams of moving to Europe and they are aiming to earn as much as possible from his sale in the summer window. Having followed the 23-year-old for a while, Torino are keen on securing his services.

His representatives have communicated to São Paulo the Serie A side’s willingness to table a €3.5m plus bonuses offer. Torino have to pay high commission to the agent, which is a ‘sore point’ for their director, Davide Vagnati.

São Paulo’s request and the agent commission could take the cost to €6-7m, and Torino could raise their proposal to €4.5m [combined] in the next few days.

Southampton, Real Betis, Girona and Granada are also in the picture. It’s claimed these clubs have contacted Welington’s agent, but haven’t taken further steps to sign him.

This allows Torino to get ahead of other interested parties in the transfer race. Therefore, the Saints have to act quickly if they wish to bring Welington to England this summer.
