The rumours linking Pedro Gonçalves to Manchester United weren’t allowed to last very long.

Following reports from the English press claiming the Red Devils were keeping an eye on the 22-year-old, the Portuguese media was quick to dismiss it the day after.

Just yesterday, we covered a few articles from Lisbon outlets saying Sporting weren’t keen on selling the attacking midfielder, and the player didn’t want to move to Manchester United or anywhere else in January anyway.

Now it was time for Pote’s agent Jorge Pires to talk a little about the situation, and also turn down the chances of a departure this month.

“At the moment there is nothing concrete and, even if there was, it wouldn’t be the best moment for Pedro Gonçalves and much less for Sporting,” Jorge Pires told TSF.

“There is no interest on our part in this transfer market, nor are Sporting interested in losing Pedro. Therefore, any business is out of the question.”

With 11 goals so far, Pedro Gonçalves is the Portuguese League’s top scorer, being the main reason why Sporting are currently on top of the table.

That’s why the Lions won’t make his departure easy. Local reports have been claiming that the club would demand €60m in January, which is the price for his release clause, as they’re confident no one would pay that much in the middle of the pandemic.
