The agent of Salernitana forward Massimo Coda has told the Italian media his client needs to be playing in the top flight. Coda was linked with a move to Leeds United in the final hours of the last window, and has also been tracked by clubs from Serie A.

Salerno Granata have reported on comments Beppe Galli made earlier this week when discussing the possibility Coda could leave Salernitana. Galli said he can’t be doing his job probably because he believes Coda should be playing at the highest level either with another club or Salernitana. Coda’s agent went on to say he hopes the Serie B side’s leaders can sort something out to enable the forward to play in the top flight.

“Obviously I’m not a good agent because Coda deserves the top flight, but Salerno also deserves Serie A.  I only hope that Lotito and Mezzaroma do something because he is the one who deserves the top flight,” said the player’s agent.

Leeds United held talks with the sporting director of Salernitana just before the summer transfer deadline. At the time the Italian club were looking to offload Coda for a fee in the region of €3m, and this week Galli confirmed interest from England.

However, a deal couldn’t be done in time with Leeds United, and since then Coda has gone on to become a vital player for his club. This has led to attention from clubs in Serie A with recent claims Crotone are showing an interest.

If Leeds United win promotion then they may well be looking at bigger targets, but given that Massimo Cellino was involved in the last chase then there’s every chance he’s still watching the situation. Galli wants his client playing at a better level, but Salernitana’s owners are hardly going to be against promotion. Maybe this is more about finances, in which case Leeds could be a January option.
