Earlier on Wednesday, we covered a report from Record which claimed Chelsea are edging themselves into the race to sign Nuno Mendes from Sporting.

The Portuguese newspaper had a photograph of Nuno Mendes entering a Lisbon restaurant with Miguel Pinho, which they say was taken on Monday evening.

Pinho is the player’s agent, also representing Bruno Fernandes, and it was claimed that whilst Manchester City were still in the lead, Manchester United remained in the race, and Chelsea had pushed themselves into the equation.

Correio da Manha also cover the meeting, yet their article doesn’t have a single mention of Chelsea.

According to the second report, Pinho used the dinner to explain the proposals the youngster has, with Manchester United and Manchester City among them.

Nuno Mendes has a €70m buyout clause, and Correio de Manha say Sporting would want to reach this figure. However, only €45m/50m would have to be paid in cash, with the rest achievable through the loan of a player, and further bonus payments.

If you’re a Manchester United supporter and this all has a feeling of déjà vu, that’s because it’s similar to how the Bruno Fernandes saga started.
