Agent José Miguel Gonzaléz has told Tuesday’s edition of Marca that he had to stay up all night to negotiate Pedro Obiang’s transfer to West Ham United.

The midfielder joined West Ham from Sampdoria in June 2015 and spent four years with the Premier League club before leaving them for Sassuolo in July 2019.

Marca state José Miguel Gonzaléz has been representing and managing several players for the last 25 years.

Over the past decade or so, the agent has taken a keen interest in Ironman Triathlon and has participated in numerous races. The newspaper focuses on how the 51-year-old manages between being an armature triathlete and taking care of his clients.

Marca says José Miguel Gonzaléz is always on his phone after finishing a race as a triathlete. He took a different approach than others while negotiating Obiang’s transfer to West Ham.

The representative uses the Hammers move as an example to explain how he conducts his business.

“The transfer of Pedro Obiang to West Ham, I closed it in the middle of the Hawaii Ironman,” he said.

“I was also in San Francisco and Las Vegas with a time change of up to 12 hours that forced me to spend sleepless nights. But it never hurt: when I finished, all that was left to do was to fly to London to sign.”

The 32-year-old played 116 matches for the Premier League club and contributed three goals and three assists. Obiang is now a regular for Sassuolo, who are in Serie B.
