Yesterday, Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport reported AS Roma’s director of football, Walter Sabatini, is travelling to England to discuss deals for Pablo Zabaleta and Wojciech Szczesny.
It was reported Sabatini is hoping to convince Arsenal to let Szczesny stay on loan for another season, with Arsenal paying a part of his wages.
There are similar reports in another Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport today. Just that it’s the other way around, as Gazzetta believe Szczesny’s agent is in Milan to meet Sabatini.
So, either Sabatini has an unique ability to be in two places at once, which we wouldn’t rule out, or has wrapped up his meeting with Arsenal already.
Whatever be it, Gazzetta, like others, suggest Arsenal should pay a part of Szczesny’s wages, which they believe is around €3m a season, for the deal to go through.
This one seems to be dragging for too long, and it may be considered Roma are being at least a little cheeky.
If Arsenal don’t see a long term future for Szczesny then a permanent sale may be a better idea, and if they do then a Premier League loan could start to look more attractive the longer Roma drag their feet.
