Barcelona continue their attempts to sign both Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta from Chelsea this summer, and Monday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo has an article focusing on the former.
It’s explained Alonso’s agent Fali Ramadani ‘is in London’ to negotiate with Chelsea and try to find a way for his client to join Barcelona this summer. Not so long ago there was hope in the Catalan media that both players could be signed either for free or nominal transfer fees.
There’s absolutely no reason for Chelsea to agree to that, especially having already lost other defenders as free agents this summer. Barcelona’s pleas of transfer poverty don’t really match with other claims they’re still working on deals for Raphinha, Jules Kounde and others.
As it stands, Chelsea ‘do not seem willing’ to dance to Barca’s tune and simply let their players leave on the cheap, and that’s an entirely reasonable stance to take.
Nevertheless, Ramadani will try and broker a deal for Alonso to move. Mundo make it clear that out of the two players, Azpilicueta is the priority for Barcelona right now.
