Eliaquim Mangala is expected to leave Manchester City in the last few days of the transfer windows. The French centre-back clearly isn’t a part of Pep Guardiola’s plans at Manchester City, and the Premier League club are looking to offload him.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport on Wednesday, Napoli are interested in signing Mangala on loan. Manchester City could receive a loan fee of €3.5m for Mangala, who arrived in a €54m deal from Porto in 2014.
Earlier, French media outlet Le 10 Sport reported AC Milan and Porto have also made loan offers for Mangala. Mangala’s agent Jorge Mendes is expected to arrive in Manchester on Thursday to finalise a deal.
The arrival of John Stones has pushed Mangala further down the pecking order. The 25-year-old has another three years left on his contract at the Etihad.
Mangala’s contract lasts until 2019, if he can have a great season for Napoli then Manchester City should be able to get a good fee next summer. Add the €3.5m loan fee, and Napoli picking up some or all of his wages, and this situation may not be the total disaster it threatened to be.
