Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho is close to agreeing a new contract with Manchester City, according to reports this Wednesday.

Esporte Interativo journalist Fred Caldeira comes up with some exclusive information saying the player could renew his deal either due to a contract clause or after a new agreement.

That’s because in case Fernandinho plays in over 60% of Manchester City’s games in a season, there’s a clause to renew his deal automatically at the end of the campaign.

The report shows that the midfielder has featured in 23 of Manchester City’s 33 games this season, meaning he’s been present in 69.7% of their matches.

But a new deal could be signed before that. It’s said that Fernandinho’s agent is expected in Manchester at the start of February so he can ‘conclude’ the negotiations for a contract extension.

So either way, it sounds like Manchester City will count on the Brazilian midfielder for at least a little longer. Signed in 2013, he already has 296 appearances for the club.
