The rumours linking Liverpool to Benfica defender Fernando Ferreira are still alive, with the player’s agent not being afraid of feeding the story.

Over the past few days, we’ve first covered the Reds’ interest in the 29-year-old, which was revealed by the Portuguese newspaper O Jogo. And then we translated the representatives’ first quotes when they came out in A Bola.

“I can’t deny that Liverpool was one of the clubs that approached me and, as well, Benfica, Ferro and myself, we understand it’s not to be the moment,” said Ulisses Santos, confirming the talks.

But the agent actually had more to say in this interview with Radio Renascença on Sunday, where he claimed that a future Anfield move is still not ruled out.

He explained player only didn’t complete the move because Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira blocked the transfer.

“He (Vieira) was completely intransigent, didn’t hesitate. I know the numbers were interesting, but I saw the president’s stubbornness and this gave me confidence for the future of Ferro.”

Still, Santos believes that Liverpool are still interested and could ‘come back to try’ again soon. But that’s something for the future, because for now, ‘there’s nothing’.

In the rest of the interview, Santos showed much confidence that Ferro can succeed at Benfica, and even mentioned the possibility of a new contract in case the player gets to the first team squad soon.

So Liverpool’s approach may have been real and all, but it has clearly been unsuccessful. And they will certainly have to show more money next time.
