Maybe Newcastle United fans shouldn’t get too excited about the signing of Ruben Semedo so soon.
As reported by Portuguese newspaper O Jogo earlier today, the Magpies would have found an agreement with Sporting for the defender’s transfer.
It was claimed that Newcastle were paying €14m for the player, and considering reports from outlets from the past few days, the story sounded pretty reasonable.
But not for agent Cátio Baldé, who seems to be very upset with all this noise around his client.
The representative was contacted by Noticias ao Minuto to talk about the transfer, but he surprisingly spent the whole dialogue denying that an agreement was ever found.
“Totally fake. It’s a lie. It isn’t minimally true. There isn’t a bottom of truth. It’s all a lie,” Cátio Baldé told Notícias ao Minuto. “Ruben is at the national team and it’s all a lie. There’s nothing.”
It’s very likely that tomorrow’s papers will have more updates on this situation. It’s normal for agents to deny deals even when they’re close to being agreed, mostly because they get afraid that things may collapse. But in this case, Baldé seems pretty insistent that nothing – NOTHING! – is happening right now.
