For weeks Leander Dendoncker was on his way to AS Monaco according to the Belgian media. Unfortunately for the midfielder, Monaco themselves didn’t seem to be of the same opinion.

Even when it was being insisted a deal was done, the French media were presenting William Carvalho as Leonardo Jardim’s preferred option, given the two worked together at Sporting. And even then, everything relied on Fabinho leaving the French principality, which he didn’t.

Everton were the other club repeatedly linked with Dendoncker, as seems to be the tradition with Anderlecht. Having spent years linked to Dennis Praet and Youri Tielemans, Dendoncker is the natural next in line for Everton links.

Belgium’s DH have had a look at the situation, and why Dendoncker didn’t move to Monaco, and Everton are inevitably dragged into it.

The player’s agent Christophe Henrotay had been trying to build a deal with Monaco, but around August 24th, when he became aware that likely wouldn’t happen, he contacted other clubs he already had good contacts with. Those are named as PSG, Atletico Madrid, and Everton.

It seems Dendoncker was happy for any of the destinations, but nothing materialised. Given the player’s efforts to move during the last window, it’s almost certain similar will happen in future windows.

Should Ronald Koeman be as keen as some reports have presented him to be, then Dendoncker could be a real possibility.
