Reports from South America link Premier League side Cardiff City to the Junior Barranquilla winger Luis Diaz. It first started as a rumour, and was later confirmed by his agent.
First, Diario Deportes claimed that several foreign clubs had emissaries watching the Colombian side playing Palmeiras in the Copa Libertadores this week.
Outlet RCN, who covers Diario Desportes’ claims, then says that one of the clubs would be Cardiff City, who would have a ‘high’ bid for Diaz, bigger than the US$6m offered by River Plate.
Things have developed a lot since then, and now as AS managed to speak to Diaz’s agent Carlos Van Strahalen, he has confirmed that Cardiff City are keen on the player.
“There’s an interest, like from the other clubs who came to the match yesterday,” Carlos Van Strahalen told AS, saying the scouts “came from Germany, Mexico, United States and England”.
Palmeiras, who are now one of the richest clubs in South America, got a 2-0 away win, giving Díaz no big chances to shine. But as scouts watch several games of each target, maybe Díaz will have other chances to impress, in case he still hasn’t.
