Newcastle United, Brentford and Crystal Palace are all evaluating ambitious moves for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
That’s according to Calcio Style, who cover the growing market around the French goalkeeper today.
They explain that the Milan number one is ‘liked’ in the Premier League and his agent ‘collects the proposals’ as they evaluate his future.
He currently has a contract in Milan until 2026 and the intention of the club and the player is to honour that because of the bond they have formed.
But the ‘sirens’ from the Premier League are ‘increasingly insistent’ and even the clubs outside of the top six are interested.
The website explains that the 27-year-old is heading for the last phase of his career, particularly as he will be 31 by the time that contract ends, and that is where footballers try to cash in as much as possible before retirement.
Thus, his agent, Bruno Satin, has ‘collected representations’ from teams in the Premier League, with Newcastle, Brentford and Palace all evaluating their positions.
Newcastle signed Nick Pope in the summer, and he’s done well but is already 30 himself, while Brentford have David Raya and Crystal Palace have Vincente Guaita who is 35. The Eagles, then, are the club most in need of a replacement.
There is a whole raft of competition, though, with Manchester United, Tottenham, Bayern Munich and PSG in the mix too.
The ball is very much in Maignan’s hands, and it will be up to him to decide what to do and eventually communicate that to Milan.
