Michele Di Gregorio’s agent Carlo Alberto Belloni has told Tuttosport that the goalkeeper turned down Liverpool to join Juventus in the summer window.
The Italian was at Monza over the last two seasons and his performances for them had caught Liverpool and Juve’s attention.
On June 5th, we covered claims from Italy which stated the Reds had made a rich offer to beat the Turin club.
Later that month, it was said Liverpool made multiple attempts and offered more money than Juventus. Despite this, the Premier League side lost the battle to the Old Lady for the 27-year-old.
Di Gregorio has impressed under Thiago Motta’s orders this season, keeping nine clean sheets and conceding 10 goals from 15 games. He also starred in Juventus’ 2-0 win over Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday
The agent was in Turin for the midweek European tie and Tuttosport now asked whether his client is ‘indigestible to English teams’. When responding to this, he mentioned the stopper rejecting Liverpool.
“[Laughs] Surely Manchester City fans will remember his saves for a long time. In the summer, however, we said no to Liverpool to marry the Juventus project,” he said.
The representative is thrilled with growth Di Gregorio has had over the years.
“I’m really happy that Michele has demonstrated all his value at international level too. Some matches are special and his performance against Manchester City is one to remember,” Carlo Alberto Belloni explained.
“If I think back to when he played in Serie C, I get emotional. He earned everything with talent and hard work: I’m proud of him.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool have agreed a deal with Valencia for Giorgi Mamardashvili to arrive at Anfield next summer.
