Idrissa Gueye has been a regular in Everton’s starting lineup this season and has made 29 appearances so far.

Africa Foot say his impact at Everton ‘remains considerable’ and therefore they could try to retain him by offering an extension.

The Senegal international has less than six months left on his contract and his future remains uncertain.

He first joined Everton from Aston Villa in 2016 and spent three years at the club. The 35-year-old left them for Paris Saint-Germain in 2019 and returned to Goodison Park in 2022.

Gueye has maintained his place in Everton’s starting lineup despite managerial changes. He continues to enjoy the trust of David Moyes, who returned to the Merseyside club last month.

Africa Foot spoke to Senegalese agent Bassirou Sakho, who is also an advisor at London’s Playmaker Sport Agency. He claims the player has been able to perform at the highest level for so long because of his career choices.

“Gueye remains, despite his age, a major Everton player,” he said.

“Still a starter at 35, the Senegalese midfielder benefits from the confidence of his coach, who has made him a centrepiece of his starting XI.

“Gueye now fully benefits from his consistent career choices, which allow him to evolve, in good shape, at the highest level. And this, despite a position that requires a lot of physical involvement.”

Sakho doesn’t represent the Everton player and was sharing his views on his compatriot. He claims Gueye will be the sole decision maker when deciding where his future lies next season.

“When his contract expires in June, he will be the only one to decide whether he wants a sporting or financial challenge at this advanced stage of his career,” Sakho explained.

“In any case, there is no doubt that a number of clubs are already in talks with the player, who is, with 4 months to go before the end of his contract, free to discuss with the potential targets of his choice.”
