Earlier this week, an article in the Scottish press pushed a list of names that could be seen as ideal recruits for Steven Gerrard at Rangers for next season.

Among them was the mention of Sint-Truiden’s Mohamed Buya Turay, who returned from his loan at Djurgården in Sweden back in December, as a potential replacement for the likely departing Alfredo Morelos.

The striker scored 15 goals in 29 appearances for the Swedish side during his time there, which caught the eye of a number of clubs, according to his agent, Numukeh Tunkara, although he refused to directly implicate Rangers when talking to Expressen.

He said: “I can’t say for sure whether he’ll leave or not. The interest in Buya Turay has been great and there has been a lot of speculation, but right now he belongs to Sint-Truiden and whatever happens this summer, we’ll deal with it then.”

Directly asked about the article and the fact his client could be ‘relevant’ for Rangers in the summer, he replied: “It’s difficult to comment on rumours and speculations. I don’t want to comment. It’s neither good for the club or the player’s career.”

Tunkara added there was ‘huge’ interest in Buya Turay and ‘everyone’ knew how fantastic of a player the striker was because of his hard work ethic.

It remains to be seen if Rangers are actually interested in the 25-year-old Sierra Leone international, but it certainly sounds like they could have competition if they did turn to him should their Colombian star leave Ibrox in the coming months.
