One of the agents involved in Emerson Royal’s move to Tottenham has admitted it was his hardest piece of business this summer.
The Brazilian defender moved to Spurs from Barcelona late in the transfer window in a £22.5m deal that was finally sealed on deadline day.
The move came as something of a surprise for the right-back, who had initially made it clear he wanted to stay at the Camp Nou.
That soon changed when Barcelona made it clear that they wanted to sell to raise funds as they look to cover a huge hole in their finances.
A move away soon became a pressing issue when Tottenham showed a willingness to get a deal done at the end of the transfer window, with both clubs pushing late on to get it over the line.
That is something they were successful in, with Emerson signing a five-year deal with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side to become their new first-choice right back.
Now one of the agents involved in the deal has given his angle on it, admitting it was his hardest deal to work on this summer.
“At the level of intermediation that of Emerson Royal to Tottenham from Barcelona,” he told Tuttomercatoweb when asked.
“Both for the timing and the figures on the table between the clubs, and then it was closed on the 31st of August.”
It’s now up to Emerson to justify the work that went in to get him to London and prove he was worth the effort.
The early signs are good, although something of a roasting from Wilfried Zaha in the 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday suggests he has work to do.
