It was only a couple of days ago that Gazzetta dello Sport were pushing the idea of Inter making a move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if Lautaro Martínez left.
We covered it, as the newspaper were adamant the Arsenal striker would leave the Emirates in the summer, and would cost around €35m.
That’s because he’s only got one year left on his contract, and if Inter got over €100m for their Argentinian starlet, they would have enough money to afford both the fee and the Gabon international’s hefty wages.
However, things change quickly in football, and the same newspaper now push the idea the Serie A side have decided to turn their attention to Timo Werner instead.
The German striker has a release clause of €60m in his contract this summer, which makes him an affordable target for big clubs, and, as you’ll know by now, there’s talk of Liverpool being interested.
Either way, the fact Inter are now looking at the Leipzig star isn’t good news for Aubameyang, and Gazzetta point that out, saying his name is ‘on the decline’ within the Serie A club compared to a few weeks ago.
That’s because Antonio Conte and co. want a more ‘future-proof’ partner for Romelu Lukaku, which is their kind way of saying the Arsenal man is too old at 30, and Werner fits the new profile far better at 24.
They say age is just a number, but when it comes to football, it’s unfortunately very important.
