Ronaldo Vieira left Leeds United for Sampdoria in 2018. Last season, he was on loan at Hellas Verona, but his stay there was cut short in February 2021 due to injury.
The midfielder was on the sidelines for close to a year, but despite these concerns, reports from the Italy indicated the Whites wanted to bring the midfielder back to Elland Road in the winter market.
Marcelo Bielsa, who is no longer at the Yorkshire club, would have gladly welcomed the 23-year-old’s signing last month.
Marco Giampaolo was the coach when the Serie A side took Vieira and he was reappointed as their manager on January 19th. This convinced the player to stay at Sampdoria, hoping that he would get opportunities under the new boss.
ClubDoria46 explain that prior to the Giampaolo’s arrival, his return to Leeds was planned and the Premier League side would have ‘gladly have brought him back’ to the club. However, a move to Elland Road was ‘postponed’.
Vieira, who has ‘gained confidence’ under Giampaolo’s orders, made six appearances this season. He has now hit a new road block due to another injury.
Sampdoria travel to Dacia Arena as they face Udinese on Saturday and the report states the midfielder is a doubt weekend clash. Given his injury history, there’s obviously increased concern.
After deciding not to rejoin Leeds in January, Vieira is looking to get his season back on track. However, his plans have been hindered by this latest injury setback.
