Brighton chased Deportivo La Coruna teenager David Mella for a while in the summer transfer window but it didn’t lead to any reward.
The youngster had a release clause in his contract of €4m, and the Seagulls were willing to match it.
La Opinion de A Coruna now report on the Spanish U19s player, stating that attempts are being made to secure Mella to a new deal.
From next July onwards, Mella’s release clause will be €10m but Deportivo have recently held talks with the player’s entourage and they want to tie him down to a long term deal.
An agreement isn’t in place yet but more talks will take place soon to potentially reach one.
Brighton’s attempt was rejected by the player himself despite the fact that the Seagulls had agreed to pay the release clause. The youngster has a close connection with Deportivo La Coruna and wanted to continue his development there.
Whether his opinion on Brighton changes in the future is of course unknown, but the Spanish club don’t want to take the chance so are working on a renewal.
