It will be no secret to Wolverhampton Wanderers fans, but Barcelona are interested in Ruben Neves, potentially as early as January.
That’s because things aren’t going to plan at the La Liga side, who were recently knocked out of the Champions League at the group stages after a poor showing throughout the six games.
This has set the alarm bells ringing in Barcelona a bit, and Sport are reporting that the Catalan club have given ‘the green light to a minimum of two signings’ in the coming transfer window.
They were originally wanting to do this in the summer, but the Champions League setback has brought plans forward, which is where the Wolves star comes in.
They explain that, as things stand, Neves is ‘the most advanced operation’ at the club right now, although it’s made clear that his name doesn’t have everyone’s vote.
Barcelona are therefore also looking at alternatives to the Wolves midfielder, but it’s stated that the club’s ‘economic parameters are clear and no crazy things will be done’.
This is why Neves is an ideal target, as ‘the operation could be closed in a very advantageous way’ for the La Liga side, although it’s not really explained why.
The midfielder is under contract at Wolves until 2024, meaning he still has a year and a half left on his contract, but that’s certainly something Barcelona could use to their advantage, especially if the 25-year-old starts pushing for a move.
