On August 6th The Daily Mail published an exclusive claiming Tottenham want Joao Cancelo.
It was made clear Tottenham are prepared to pay £25m for the 23 year old Valencia fullback, and that Spurs would provide competition to Juventus, who have been linked sporadically over the summer.
That’s all the encouragement the Spanish press needed. Cancelo leaving Valencia for a reasonable fee is seen as a great scenario by those who cover Valencia, especially with the player wanting to leave.
Deporte Valenciano said sending Cancelo to Tottenham could be ‘a perfect solution’ for Valencia, and there was optimism abound.
Valencia would be happy to accept €25m, according to the local claims, so Tottenham’s £25m would surely be welcomed.
Friday’s copy of Marca continues things. Under a header reading ‘Adios… to Garay and Cancelo’ the Spanish newspaper said that both players are close to leaving Valencia, and Cancelo is waiting for his move. Valencia are ready and willing to sell.
So where’s the Tottenham offer? Well, there’s been no sniff of one in Spain, not even a trademark derisory one.
The Valencia press want one, Valencia want one, Cancelo wants one, so as soon as there’s any hint of a Tottenham offer it’ll be all over the local media.
