Niklas Haugland, the ‘mountain boy’ (a name used by a Bergen newspaper given the youngster’s background), is set to sign for Leeds United.

Bergens Tidende believe the 16 year old will be announced and presented soon by the Whites, and Norway’s TV2 have spoken to Mads Vik Tvedte, of the player’s current club Fana, who told them: “What I can say is that Niklas is a very exciting player with a great potential.

“He has been on a number of reference stays in several major clubs both before and during this season, and is in view of several European big clubs. And now he was on a stay in Leeds recently.”

It’s been reported that Leeds United have beaten several big clubs to signing the player. This kind of thing is said a lot and usually it’s an exaggeration of the interest from elsewhere, but this time it certainly seems there’s some truth in it.

Over in Germany, Welt Fussball report that Bayern Munich have lost the ‘fight’ to sign a player described as a ‘super talent’.

Haugland is pictured at Bayern Munich’s facilities, where he spent a period training, and was targeted as part of the Bavarian club’s new concentration on hoovering up young talent.

This time it appears Leeds have beaten them to it.
