While there is a bit of confusion regarding the details of Joao Cancelo’s move to Manchester City, the Italian media are quickly unifying when it comes to the outcome: the transfer is close.

Gazzetta dello Sport got the ball rolling early on Thursday, stating Juventus could accept €40m + Danilo for the Portugal international, only for SportMediaset to make a bold claim that such a transaction wouldn’t be necessary as the Cityzens would simply pay €50m and be done with it.

The operation was said to be ‘very close to the final conclusion’, and while that might be the case, it’s not done yet.

Gazzetta dello Sport remain adamant that Juventus want €60m for their defender, and that €40m + Danilo remains the best way for City to save money and the Serie A champions to walk away with their money back + a replacement, thus ticking all the boxes.

The €50m claim is mentioned (although they don’t name SportMediaset), explaining that it’s simply the Premier League champions’ desire to get him for less, but Fabio Paratici refuses to budge.

The Juventus chief has made it clear he wants the full price, and an agreement should be found following a recent ‘acceleration’ in talks after Pep Guardiola’s ‘specific request’ to Sheikh Mansour to sign the right-back.

Either way, talks certainly appear to be ongoing and the desire is there from all parties to get something done.

They just need to find the formula that ends up making everyone happy.
