Barcelona have ‘never lost track’ of Newcastle United star Alexander Isak, according to Monday’s edition of Sport.
The Sweden international spent three years at Real Sociedad before joining the Magpies in 2022.
He has been a standout performer for Newcastle since then, managing 58 goals and nine assists from 100 games.
Barcelona have been following the striker for long and continue to keep tabs on him. Their former technical secretary, Ramón Planes, even looked at him in 2021, when he was still with La Real.
The Catalan club have collected positive reports about the 25-year-old, but it’s not given that they will make an approach in the summer window.
Barcelona, led by president Joan Laporta, and sporting director, Deco, have been focusing on renewing contracts of their current players. At the same time, Deco has been looking at the positions, including the attack, they would like to improve for next season.
With regards to Isak, Sport state there’s ‘absolute consensus’ at Barca that he ‘would fulfil all aspirations’.
Laporta is the Newcastle player’s greatest supporter and is willing to make a ‘significant financial effort’ to sign Isak if the conditions are met. The newspaper adds the president isn’t alone as Deco and Hansi Flick would also be in favour of his arrival.
Sport makes no mention of Newcastle and Isak’s stance or the fee Barcelona are willing to pay.
