RB Leipzig are facing something of a crisis ahead of their clash withGiovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday.
That’s according to BILD, who say there has been a ‘defence alert’ at the club duo to several high profile absences.
The German side are set to take on Rangers in the first leg of their semi-final double-header on Thursday, and a win would put them in a good place for next week’s clash at Ibrox.
But Leipzig are set to go into the game with a ‘burden’ on their shoulders as three key players are missing due to yellow card suspensions.
Kevin Kampl, Willi Orban and Mohamed Simakan are all set to miss the clash with Rangers, and that has left coach Domenico Tedesco worried with him admitting, “We have to and will compensate for that. Who do we have left? Josko Gvardiol, Lukas Klostermann and Marcel Halstenberg.”
Those ‘absences hurt’, particularly because Leipzig’s defence have been in good form of late, particularly in Europe, where they’ve only conceded four goals in four games.
What’s clear is that Tedesco will ‘have to pull a new defensive chief out of his hat’, with the first choice being Lukas Klostermann.
It is also possible that Marcel Halstenberg will be brought into the centre, although at the minute, there are only ‘four players for three positions.’
In other words, Leipzig have some difficult decisions to make, something that might give Rangers an advantage in the first leg at least.
