Earlier on Wednesday, we covered a story from RAC1 in Catalonia claiming that Adrien Rabiot’s entourage were set to meet Manchester City about a possible transfer next summer once the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder’s contract comes to an end.

The prospect of acquiring the France international on a free will be attractive for many clubs, including Barcelona, which is a move the 23-year-old sees with a ‘good eye’.

However, Marca believe the La Liga champions might not wait that long, as Eric Abidal is trying to push his club to make a move for Rabiot in the next few days.

The club’s technical secretary wants to ‘take advantage’ of the fact the midfielder has yet to renew his contract with Paris Saint-Germain to achieve something his predecessors never managed to pull off: sign a starting player from their French rivals.

Of course, the Ligue 1 title holders still aren’t keen on seeing their homegrown player leave, but the issues with Financial Fair Play could swing everything in Barcelona’s favour.

As Marca say, ‘if by some miracle Paris Saint-Germain accept that the best thing in their interest is to sell a player who could leave for free next summer’, the belief is €50m should do the trick.

In Barcelona’s mind, that isn’t seen as a hurdle in the slightest, especially considering how much they’ve had to spend in the past to get first-team players (Coutinho and Dembélé).

With money still in the bank, they’re just waiting for the right time to pounce.
