After not starting four Scottish Premiership games in a row for Rangers, Cyriel Dessers came off the bench against St Johnstone at the weekend.

His last league goal for Philippe Clement’s side came against Kilmarnock in early December. It seems as if game time is drying up for the Nigerian, who has also failed to start the last two games in the Europa League.

Interest in the Rangers player has now emerged from Italy. Corriere dello Sport have reported today that Cagliari see the 30-year-old as an option to reinforce their attack, if veteran Gianluca Lapadula departs this month.

The Sardinian side see Dessers as their ‘favourite’ target, but they are facing concrete competition from Empoli and ‘a duel is underway’ between the two clubs.

Something similar was reported by Corriere dello Sport yesterday and Empoli’s liking for the Rangers man was also covered by Corriere Fiorentino. All of that makes it quite clear that Dessers is of interest in Italy, where he spent one season during his time at Cremonese.

Rangers have seen the player score 12 times in all competitions this season. While he is falling down the pecking order, a decision about Dessers will be an important one to make.
