Brighton and Hove Albion defender Jan Paul van Hecke has admitted the coverage of the incident with Pep Guardiola before the international break all got a little comical.
Voetbal 4 U cover comments from the defender today to Voetbal International in which the incident with Guardiola was again brought up.
Van Hecke was seen talking to the Manchester City manager on the pitch after Brighton’s 2-1 win before the international break, with the discussion seemingly a heated one.
He’s since explained that Guardiola wanted to talk to him about an incident with Erling Haaland after the Brighton defender and Manchester City striker had clashed in the box and Van Hecke had gone down.
The Spanish boss was seemingly unhappy with that and wanted to tell the defender to his face and the incident didn’t go unnoticed by the media.
Many had speculated what the Manchester City manager had told the defender, especially given he’s entered the pitch to talk to opposition players in the past.
Van Hecke has already admitted that it was nothing more than a friendly conversation and believes the attention the incident received has now become comical.
“A lot has been said about it, especially in England. Guardiola is the biggest and best coach in the world,” he said.
“Then it all ends up on the news. It was also in front of a camera. Then everyone talks about it. I found it a bit funny in the end. I saw that lip readers had been put on it. Then it seems real.”
