On Wednesday, an FC Porto director revealed that Leicester City spent an extra two million euros in the transfer of Ricardo Pereira.
Previously announced for €20m, the player would have actually cost €22m, with this difference raising some eyebrows in the Portuguese press.
We even guessed that these bonuses could have been paid due to the player’s call-up to the World Cup, and apparently, we were right.
Local newspaper O Jogo went after the story, and found out that the €2m was paid exactly due to the player’s presence in Portugal’s final list for the tournament.
There’s still another €3m that the Foxes may spend on the transfer, as the original agreement included €5m in undisclosed performance bonuses.
Porto may end up losing two right-backs in this transfer window, as Manchester United are now expected to sign Diogo Dalot by triggering his release clause. This is seen by the club’s fans as bad planning from the Dragons, and apparently, Leicester City were smart getting the Pereira signing done early.
